When trading the Forex market, it is very important to always be aware of various national holidays, which can often be a good guide to predicting the market situation and the movement of a particular currency. Often, market activity on Forex weekends and during holidays changes, and favorable moments may arise to implement trading transactions and gain additional profit. In this case, the Forex holiday calendar allows you to always be aware of which country’s stock exchange does not conduct trading on that day and, accordingly, adjust your trading strategy according to the new conditions. Considering this information, you can switch to trading in another currency in advance or not trade at all on this day, so as not to expose your deposit to unjustified risks.

Where to watch forex quotes on the weekend?
So, where will we look at quotes on the weekend while the price in our trading terminal is still standing?
You can see that at the time of writing, the closing price of the candle, that is, the last price that was on the chart of the EUR/USD pair, was 1.0809. Until the market opens in our trading terminal, we will not know whether a gap has occurred, whether the price has fallen or increased.
We don't have any information. And this can be very useful to know, especially when gaps occur. After all, if you know in advance that a gap will happen, you can take any action at the market open. That is, trade this gap, or close positions as quickly as possible.
This will help you understand whether you should wait for the market to open or leave everything as is and go to bed early.

It’s worth summing up: how does Forex work during the holidays and when should you stop and resume trading? In order for a currency exchange participant to be able to answer these questions, he should take into account several important points:
- Positions should be closed between December 23 and December 25.
- Transactions can be made after January 4th.
- Until January 16, it is recommended to reduce stop and take indicators.
- You should trade on daily charts.
Also key is to monitor the widening of spreads. It is worth noting that after the New Year, the trend that was tracked on the daily charts in the last weeks of the previous year reverses. If you liked the article, you can add it to your bookmarks.
Where will we look for quotes?
There are several options, but the most popular and convenient option is forex.tradingcharts.com .
In addition to charts and quotes, this site also contains various news and forecasts, but in English. But the language of quotes and charts is international, so this will not bother us.
You can open the chart of the currency pair we are interested in directly from the menu:
Or you can click on the link in the “CHARTS & QUOTES” menu and a separate page with the chart will open:
The standard currency pair for the chart is EUR/USD. You can easily replace it with the one you need:
The menu contains the latest open currency pairs, distributed by popular and major ones.
If you did not find the currency pair you need in the list, then click on Other/Select:
In the menu that opens, you can select the currency pair you are interested in:
Let's look at the EUR/USD currency pair as an example:
By default, the time is GMT, that is, Greenwich Mean Time. We will not change it because it is more convenient for us:
On the chart you can display bars, candles, a line chart, and even add moving averages and other various standard indicators:
The chart period can be set to 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour and 1 day:
For clarity, I will set it to 5 minutes and, to save the changes, click on the “Save” button, which is on the right.
As a result, we will have the following graph:
Please note that when we move the cursor along the graph, the indicators in the information panel at the top change:
In it we are interested in time, opening price, closing price of the candle, high and low. As we see, we have data for Friday, and then the date for Sunday. Please note that our price was around 1.0829, and then it sharply drops by 10 points, and the next candle shows 1.0819 points. All because of very low liquidity. Therefore, the price may fall sharply. What conclusions can we draw from this?
The latest price at the moment is 1.0820 points. And the price on the closing chart was 1.0809 points:
It grew by 19 points. Nothing terrible would happen in this case. But on days when there are gaps, you would feel a significant difference in price. Moreover, we would have known this in advance and would have been prepared for it. Similarly, we can open the chart of any currency pair.
Let's open GBP/USD:
Compared to Friday, the pound fell. Quotes at the close of the week were 1.4935 points, and our last price on Friday was 1.4960:
The difference is about 20 points. This is certainly not a big change, but you know that the price has gone down. If you have a large position, then such data can be significant for you personally.
FOREX TRADING ON NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS // Forex Trading New Year holidays
Information in English, see bottom of the page.
The New Year is approaching , and with it the long-awaited long weekend . Thoughts about feasting, festivities, etc. Already, office workers are not allowed to sleep peacefully at work . How are things going in Forex ? When to disable advisors and stop manual trading?
It is worth mentioning that in America and other Catholic countries, the main holiday is Christmas - December 25, and not the New Year itself, as in Russia. Therefore, it is after December 25, without waiting for the 31st, that you should stop trading. Many investment funds and banks close positions already on the 19th-20th, but in general, work activity, although not so dynamic, is observed right up to Catholic Christmas.
I usually hold positions on the daily charts until about the evening of December 24th.
After December 25 and until the New Year there is nothing to do on the market - Forex works, but movements are minimal and difficult to predict. December 31 is usually a short day, but the first days of the new year forex does not work. Your broker will definitely send you the exact schedule of the market during the holidays.
Please note that many brokerages widen spreads during the holidays. Everything here depends very much on each specific year and specific broker, so I cannot give you exact dates for the period of spread increase. In the first days of January, before opening a position, check the spread - if it exceeds normal values on ordinary weekdays, then it is better not to trade for now.
When will normal activity return to the market? Here all kinds of analysts like to speculate and shout that there is nothing to do on the market until almost the end of February. Nonsense. I have seen many times large movements that originated at the very beginning of January and brought hundreds of points on the daily charts. Technical analysis signals are still respected, and if spreads are not too high, it is quite possible to open positions.
Also, many people like to say that the market after the holidays is thin and trading is dangerous. What does this mean in practice? Trading volumes are small, there are no powerful movements. If there are no powerful movements, then what is the danger? When trading intraday, you just need not to set large goals, in numbers up to 16, and, accordingly, not to use large stops. Reduce the stop loss and take profit proportionally in your system, and you are good to trade. On the daily charts, as I already said, no anomalies are observed.
But it is better to disable all kinds of sensitive advisors (scalpers) until mid-January. And not only scalpers - all ATS should be postponed until the market stabilizes.
So, let's summarize:
- We close all positions on December 24
- After January 4th it is quite possible to trade
- Until January 16, when trading intraday, we reduce takes and stops
- We do not use advisors until January 16
- We trade as usual on daily charts
- The most important thing: we monitor the widening of spreads.
PS I’ll give you a little trick - after the New Year, the trend that was on the daily charts for the last few weeks last year, as a rule, reverses.
I take this opportunity to wish all my blog readers and subscribers a Happy New Year and Merry Christmas. All the best to you and, of course, a favorable trend in 2019!

New Year is approaching, and with it the long-awaited long weekend. Thoughts on the feast, festivities, etc. now do not give office workers sleep on the job. But what about the things in Forex? When advisers disable and stop manual trading?
It is worth mentioning that in the United States and other Catholic countries, the main holiday is Christmas Day — December 25, and not the New Year, as in Russia. Therefore, it is after December 25 without waiting for the number 31 is to stop trading. Many investment funds and banks have already closed positions 19-20 numbers, but on the whole working activity, though not so dynamic, there is up to the Catholic Christmas.
I usually keep the position on the daily charts somewhere in the evening on December 24.
After December 25, and up to the New Year on the market has nothing to do — forex works, but the movement is minimal and difficult to predict. December 31 is usually a short day, well, the first few days of the new year, the forex does not work. The exact schedule of the market work on holidays you will be sure to send your broker.
Please note that many brokerages spreads wide during the holidays. It all very much depends on each particular year and the particular broker, so the exact dates the period of increasing the spread, I can not give you. In the first days of January, before the open position, check the spread — if it exceeds the normal values in the usual routine, it is best not to trade is.
When does the market return to normal activity? Here all kinds of analysts like to breed arguments and shouting that the market has nothing to do almost to the end of February. Nonsense. Many times I saw large movements, which originated at the beginning of January and brought hundreds of items on the daily charts. Technical Analysis Signals are still observed, and if spreads are not too high — it is quite possible to open positions.
Also, many people like to try to be clever, saying that the market is thin after the holidays, and trading is dangerous. What does this mean in practice? Trading volumes are small, there is no powerful movements. If there is no powerful movements, what is the danger? Just do not put big targets, in numbers up to 16, and, accordingly, do not use big stops when trading intraday. Reduce the proportion to the stop-loss and take-profit in your system, and it can be traded. On the daily charts, as I said, no abnormalities were observed.
But all sorts of sensitive advisers (scalpers), it is better to disable the middle of January. And not just scalpers — all EA in an amicable way should be postponed until the market stabilizes.
So, to summarize:
-All positions will be closed December 24
-After January 4, it is possible to trade
-Prior to January 16, with trade and reduce Teika foot within days
-Until January 16 did not use advisers
-On the daily charts are trading as usual
-Most importantly, follow the widening of spreads.
PS I'll give you a little trick - after the New Year, the trend that has been on the daily charts of the last few weeks of last year, as a rule, unfolds. Taking this opportunity, I congratulate all readers of my blogs and subscribers with the upcoming New Year and Christmas. All the best to you and, of course, the following trend in the 2019th year!
When to look at the data?
I recommend viewing them on Sunday evening, as there is not much point in watching them on Saturday or Sunday morning. Even if the price changes on the chart, by the evening it may return to its original value. So it makes sense to look ahead to see if there will be a gap or not on Sunday night. Somewhere at 22:00 Moscow time. After this, you will be able to know whether you need to wait for the market to open or just go to bed.

Is it possible to trade on weekends and holidays?
Experienced traders assure that the best time for competent analytics and planning was to trade for the next working week - weekends and holidays. During such a period, the risk of making a mistake due to high tension is reduced. It’s rational not to enter the market at all on weekends, even through VPS servers, but to do analytics. To do this, highlight several key events on the basis of which the price of the assets you are interested in will be based.
But the topic of trading on weekends is relevant for many due to the fact that they devote all their free time to this process outside of their main job. You can only trade on weekends and holidays if the broker you choose supports this feature. The exception is national holidays (for example, New Year), when holidays are celebrated around the world. This means that neither exchanges nor banks will work. Thus, you can trade around the clock only with the support of such a function by the broker, and only outside of international holidays.
Each broker informs its clients about the operating hours of the terminal when the trader will be able to open and close positions. For example, during the New Year period, it is rational to close all positions in the morning of December 24, before Catholic Christmas. And open no earlier than January 3rd. The most rational way to earn income from trading on any day is binary options. Brokers usually do not restrict access to these trading instruments even on weekends. Also, many Forex investment programs continue to operate during the holidays (for example, LAMM and PAMM investing, deposit accumulation). The service for copying Forex transactions (auto trading) does not work during weekends/holidays.
