In 2021, revenue from sales of Nizhnekamskneftekhim products amounted to 189 billion rubles, which is 16% more than a year ago. The goal of Nizhnekamskneftekhim is to provide itself with its own raw materials as much as possible, refusing to purchase on the market. In order to fully cover the needs for benzene, a benzene production unit with a capacity of 50 thousand tons was built at the ethylene plant. The work of the new facility was launched by First Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Nigmatullin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim Ruslan Shigabutdinov, General Director of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim Azat Bikmurzin, Deputy General Director - Commercial Director of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim Timur Shigabutdinov and the head of the Nizhnekamsk municipal district Aidar Metshin, pressing the symbolic start button.

Benzene is necessary for the production of ethylbenzene and styrene, which are used in the production of rubbers and polystyrene. Previously, the company had to purchase benzene on the market, but now the company will not only cover its own needs, but will also be able to sell it.

— Previously, we had 210 thousand tons of benzene, but now we have 265 thousand tons. The economic component is good, and the most important thing is the unloading of the railway, plus the environmental component - tanks, drainage, - explained the General Director of Nizhnekamskneftekhim Azat Bikmurzin to the First Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Nigmatullin during a tour of the site.

The new installation was built in a year and a half using technology from the American company GTC, which is an international licensor of oil refining and petrochemical technologies. The launch of the unit is one of five projects that have been implemented at the ethylene plant over three years. This includes the construction of new pyrolysis furnaces of the SRT-VI type. Two new furnaces were not only able to replace four old ones in terms of power, but also had a beneficial effect on the environment, as flue gas emissions into the atmosphere were reduced. In total, the ethylene plant has 18 pyrolysis furnaces: 11 are in operation, the rest are in reserve. This made it possible to achieve ethylene production capacity of up to 611 thousand tons per year.

Key industry for expanding investment

After the ceremonial launch, Dmitry Konov, Chairman of the Board of SIBUR Holding PJSC, answered a question from journalists about developing mechanisms for compensating part of the investment costs when implementing new petrochemical projects.

— Work is underway, there are mechanisms that have been put into operation. TAIF and SIBUR are preparing to sign an agreement on a reverse excise tax on capacity modernization. Also for compensation of investment costs, there is a separate mechanism for developing a damper for rubber, which is especially important for Nizhnekamskneftekhim. I'm sure the more projects there are, the more support there will be. I understand that TAIF has many of these projects and the programs will be implemented. Because the state obviously sets the goal of expanding investment, expanding investment in production, modernization, and export. Petrochemicals are a key industry in this regard,” answered Dmitry Konov, Chairman of the Board of SIBUR Holding PJSC.

36.4 billion rubles will be used to pay dividends

In general, based on the results of 2021, the company increased its product sales volumes. 716 thousand tons of rubber were sold, which is 14 thousand tons more than a year ago. The volume of sales of plastics increased by 19 thousand tons, which exceeded 717 thousand tons. These figures were announced at a meeting of shareholders by the general director of the enterprise, Azat Bikmurzin.

Record volumes of production of many products were achieved: 732 thousand tons of plastic, 221 thousand tons of butyl rubber, 223 thousand tons of benzene, 307 thousand tons of propylene, 201 thousand tons of isoprene from isobutane, 107 thousand tons of isoprene from isopentane were produced. The physical volume index was 103.2%.

The market capitalization of Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC increased by 22.4 billion rubles and by the end of 2021 amounted to almost 112 billion rubles. Revenue from product sales increased by 16% and reached 189 billion rubles.

— Despite certain difficulties in the synthetic rubber market, the company had a successful year. This is revenue growth and growth in the index of physical production volume. Effective implementation of projects allows increasing the contribution of Nizhnekamskneftekhim to the budgets of the country and the republic. Thus, the amount of taxes and payments to budgets of all levels for 2021 amounted to more than 13 billion rubles, including 7 billion rubles to the consolidated budget of Tatarstan, said First Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Nigmatullin.

At the end of 2021, it was decided to allocate 36.4 billion rubles to pay dividends. Of these, 32.1 billion rubles will go to payments on ordinary shares and 4.4 billion rubles to preferred ones. These will be the first dividends since 2015: in connection with the implementation of the ethylene complex project for 2021 and 2021. no payments were made.

41% of all company sales came from rubbers, 33% from plastics

The main product for the company remained synthetic rubbers, which accounted for 41% of all sales. At the same time, 84% is for export: Nizhnekamsk rubber is supplied to global tire giants under long-term contracts.

— To increase the efficiency of the rubber segment, three investment projects were implemented at the isoprene monomer plant as part of the program to increase the production of SKI-3 isoprene rubber to 330 thousand tons per year. A formaldehyde production unit was launched, isobutylene production was put into operation in 2021, and in January of this year the technical re-equipment of isoprene production was completed,” said Azat Bikmurzin.

As part of import substitution, NKNK seeks to increase sales of its own plastics

Last year, the company began implementing a project to produce divinyl-styrene synthetic rubber, which is used to create environmentally friendly tires. The project's capacity will be 60 thousand tons, it is planned to be implemented in 2021.

33% of total sales came from plastics, which are mainly sold on the domestic market. In 2021, 83.6% of plastics were sold in Russia, 13.5% in the CIS countries, and only 2.9% in Europe. At the same time, as part of import substitution, NKNK seeks to increase sales of its own plastics. First of all, we are talking about linear low-density polyethylene and propylene copolymers.

Strategic project for the company

The production of DSSC is a strategic project of the company. Its construction began in 2021. The active phase of the project’s implementation occurred at the time of the introduction of strict restrictive measures related to the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, all construction work was completed in full.

The use of DSSC in the manufacture of tires makes it possible to achieve an increase in its service life, better grip on wet and icy roads and fuel economy. Another new type of polymer that was produced at this production is styrene-butadiene-styrene thermoplastic elastomers (TEP).

These products are used as additives to asphalt concrete pavement and roofing materials. The key features of TPE include high compatibility with road and roofing bitumens, an optimal balance of mechanical strength and elasticity, as well as the possibility of repeated processing without deterioration in quality characteristics. The cost of asphalt concrete pavement with the addition of thermoplastic elastomer increases by 1%, and the service life of asphalt doubles.

During the construction of the new production, the most modern technologies were used that meet international standards of industrial and environmental safety. The new production line uses a state-of-the-art air emission treatment unit at the rubber extraction stage, an additional measure that helps prevent pollutants from entering the atmosphere.
