Forex participants get used to the fact that the market is active 24 hours a day for 5 days.
Only during the period when European countries and the United States operate does volatility increase. If we talk about the stock market, it is necessary to monitor the operating hours of other exchanges, since their schedules may overlap. Knowing the trading regime on various world exchanges (including the Moscow one), brokers and private investors can correctly plan their daily routine.
Moscow Exchange markets and their work schedule
Structurally, the Moscow Exchange is divided into several sections depending on the assets that are concentrated there, as well as the order in which transactions are carried out.
- stock market section
- foreign exchange market section
- derivatives market section
- money market
- precious metals market and commodity market
In the future, we will discuss with you more than once the various nuances of working with this exchange holding company, the tools that are used there, the features of trading in shares, futures and options, etc. But today let me bring to your attention the Moscow Exchange 2021 operating schedule, as well as trading modes on individual markets.
Where is the best place to trade stocks?
To begin with, you can use the services of the BCS company, which offers a small entry threshold and has access to large international stock exchanges.
Terms of trade:
- Having a single account, you can start working on Russian, European and American sites.
- The deposit amount is from 1 dollar if you work in the foreign exchange market.
- Ability to use company software and QUIK.
- The company makes it possible to open an individual investment account and receive tax compensation from the state.
Most large banks in the Russian Federation offer ]stockbrokers[/anchor] on various conditions.
Among them are:
- "Sberbank";
- "Alfa Bank";
- Tinkoff Bank;
- VTB;
- "Finam."
You can trade shares on the market online. This is a simple and reliable way to manage your own capital, since the trading process is much faster than in the classic version. With the advent of electronic platforms, brokerage services have become cheaper.
In order to trade stocks online, you need to follow a number of steps:
- Choose a broker for online stock trading.
- Make an agreement with him.
- Install a special program on your PC for trading securities.
- Receive an access key to the software from the broker.
- Ask your broker how to open your trading account.
When trading online, a person spends less time, because you can purchase shares and complete the transaction with one click of the mouse. The volume of paper documentation is reduced, and a participant in online trading has the same conditions as traders trading on the site.

How to take this information into account when trading on the stock exchange
The tables above show that sessions can overlap for several hours and this time can be used for trading. We are talking about the European and American sessions, since the largest volumes of securities are sold on these sites and the work schedule for the most part coincides with the activity of the Moscow Exchange.
Often, the opening of a stock exchange in the United States serves as a marker that indicates the movement of any securities.
Example:
- "Yandex". On May 23, in the afternoon, the price of the securities changed slightly (about 2,400 rubles per share). But only until the American site opened.
- Yandex is also traded on the New York NASDAQ. At the beginning of the session there is a significant downward gap, i.e. Only short positions are given priority.
- There are a few hours left before the Moscow stock exchange closes, and the priority of movement has already been outlined. Before the end of exchange trading on the MICEX, one could earn about 30 rubles per share. The amount is small, but no complicated calculations were required.
This method can only be used for top securities that are traded on most major platforms. During the period when some sites are closed, you can see an increase in volume.
Trading starts with the opening of Tokyo markets at 3 a.m. Moscow time. In 1 hour, Singapore and Hong Kong platforms will start. Since trading sessions overlap in some places, activity is observed in 2 regions of the world, as a result of which market fluctuations become more intense.
The session of the Asian region intersects with the European one, and at 10 a.m. Moscow time, transactions begin to be made in European countries from the trading floors of Paris, Zurich and Frankfurt am Main. The largest market fluctuations are observed from 11 to 12 noon (during the London market opening hours). Traders in Japan and Singapore then close trading. At 13:00 the session closes at the Hong Kong site.
European market participants trade calmly until 16:00, and then big market unrest begins, since the European-American session starts at the same time as the New York platform.
The Chicago Stock Exchange opens at 6 p.m. From 4 to 6 pm the Forex market sees the highest volumes traded. At 6 pm all stock exchanges in Europe close their work, and an hour later the London exchange also closes.
The market is stabilizing and calming down. On New York platforms trading continues until midnight Moscow time, and on Chicago platforms until 01:00. The Wellington Stock Exchange opens at midnight and trading proceeds smoothly. The Sydney site opens in 1 hour and the market remains calm until 3am.
As soon as the Tokyo session opens, everything starts all over again. Work on the stock exchanges cannot end, because if one site closes, another opens.
Stock market section
The MB stock market is divided into several sectors, which have their own characteristics both in terms of assets in circulation and in terms of functioning.
Main market sector
Here there is a turnover of Russian and foreign assets - shares, shares and depositary receipts. Both residents and non-residents can take part in the auction.
Standard sector
In this sector, you can conduct transactions not only with shares, but also with options, futures, shares and other assets.
The session starts at 10-00, ends at 18-45. Evening session from 19-00 to 23-50.
Sector Classic
In this sector, participants can set their own trading days and settlement method. Payments can also be made in foreign currency.
Opening hours from 10-00 to 18-45.
Trading times for different exchanges around the world
When trading on the Moscow Exchange, you will have to take into account foreign trading sessions. In this article we will not provide a list of all exchanges in the world with the time of their opening, but we will look at four key regions.
European exchanges
The European trading session starts at 10:00 and closes at 19:00.
American session
The opening hours of American exchanges begin at 16:00 and end at 23:00.
Asian bloc
Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore start their activities at 3:00 and end at 11:00.
Pacific region
The Pacific trading session in Moscow time runs from 0:00 to 9:00. The beginning of this session is considered the beginning of a new trading day. Many traders combine the Pacific and Asian blocs.
Trading schedule on the foreign exchange market
Trading in foreign currencies has been taking place on this market since 1992.
It must be said that the concepts of trading foreign currencies on the stock exchange and forex are very often confused. It is necessary to clearly understand that Forex has nothing to do with exchange trading; it is not an exchange or an exchange platform.
There are also differences in the international and national definition of forex. Abroad, this is the foreign exchange market and trading in various currencies. In Russia, these are speculative transactions with currency values that are carried out through commercial banks and dealing firms.
Bidding in the section starts at 10-00 and ends at 23-50 Moscow time.
conclusions
Since the work of stock exchanges is suspended for lunch break, this fact must be taken into account. Each country has several trading platforms, but you don’t need to adapt to the work schedule of each. You can select only the largest sites.
If a market instrument is traded on 2 or 3 platforms at once, then by looking at the initial fluctuations on the chart of one of them, you can see how the movement will be planned on the others. This fact must be taken into account if the broker actively trades in the stock market.
Main exchange activities
The main areas of work of the Exchange are reduced to the following operations and markets:
- Stock Exchange. Here, trading in numerous securities is carried out: shares, corporate and regional bonds, shares of investment funds, receipts, certificates and others. The calculation is carried out according to the T+2 principle (that is, after 2 days)
- Currency market. Trading takes place in a variety of currencies: euro and dollar, yuan and British pound, hryvnia, tenge, rubles, etc. But the key and most popular pairs are USD/RUB, EUR/RUB. The market value of these pairs even influences the establishment of the official exchange rate
- Derivatives market. Here the purchase and sale of derivatives takes place: futures contracts with various volatility indices, as well as contracts for precious metals, sugar, oil, stocks and bonds
- Clearing and settlement and depository operations, as well as trading in gold and silver. In addition, the organization offers clients high-tech products and services

Information for traders
In order to trade more successfully than other players, you need to take into account many external factors. The overall behavior of the stock market can change over time during the day, and you need to understand what influences its movement. The main sessions last as follows (time is indicated in Moscow time):
- Asian: 03-00 – 11-00
- European: 09-00 – 17-00
- American: 16-00 – 01-00
It is during the beginning of the American session that the most active trading takes place, since at the same time European participants return from their afternoon rest. Based on the received statistical data, American hedge funds, as well as other corporate and private speculators, are included in trading.
An interesting point arises at a time when European exchanges are already closing, but their American counterparts are still open. They continue to trade independently and, given limited liquidity, can move exchange rates virtually at their own discretion.
This transition time between sessions is considered a “thin market.” These are the most dangerous intervals, during which the situation can change catastrophically quickly. Therefore, experienced traders recommend not leaving their own transactions unattended at such moments.
Friends, I hope this information was useful for you, since you decided to engage in stock exchange activities. This automatically means showing interest in the work of the American site. Be sure to consider timing differences as they result in market reactions and exchange rate changes. I will be glad to chat with you on the pages of new publications!
