Dividends on Gazprom shares in 2021 - size and register closing date

Dividend policy

allocates funds to pay dividends in the range of 17.5 to 35%. When calculating the amount to pay, the net profit according to the annual financial report is taken into account. In accordance with the charter of the joint-stock company, dividends are calculated only after the formation of the reserve fund in full.

In this case, the fundamental principles are taken into account: increasing capitalization, improving the investment background, maintaining a balance between the development of the company and generating income. Another important principle is the transparency of the method for calculating the income portion in the form of dividends.

Net profit is distributed as follows:

  • dividends (at least 10%);
  • investments (from 40 to 75%).

The rest of the funds are distributed equally - for investment purposes and dividends. The Board of Directors of JSC Gazprom submits recommendations on the amount of payments to the meeting of shareholders for consideration.

The General Meeting of Shareholders cannot increase the recommended amount of dividend payments. But it has the right to resolve the issue of non-payment of remuneration.

General information

Russian energy industry is engaged in:

  1. Geological exploration (in 2021, gas growth amounted to more than 796 billion cubic meters thanks to the Leningradskoye field and the Yuzhno-Kirinskoye field).
  2. Production (138 fields, oil and gas region in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Nadym - Pur - Tazovsky).
  3. Recycling.
  4. Transportation (gas transportation systems stretch over 172.1 thousand kilometers across the territory of Russia).

PJSC Gazprom is a state-owned company. 50.23% of the shares are controlled by the state, having a controlling stake. The rest of the owners are companies also under state control (Rosneftegaz JSC, Rosgazification JSC) and private individuals.

Over the years of work at Gazprom, a close-knit and competent team has been formed, numbering about 430 thousand people. Excellent working conditions and wages have been created for employees. Therefore, being an employee is considered very prestigious.

If the company’s employees have decent salaries by today’s standards, then questions naturally arise: “How much does Gazprom earn?” What is his revenue and profit?”

The mineral resources of Russia are inexhaustible. And no one can estimate the real cost of such popular resources as oil and gas, or calculate how much revenue they bring.

All company dividends for the last 10 years

For comparison, let's look at the history of Gazprom's payments over the last 10 years. Dividend statistics clearly show the general state of affairs in the gas production industry. After all, bonuses, as you remember, are paid from the company’s net profit.

Gazprom is one of the few companies that does not issue preferred shares. The company's management adheres to the policy of equal distribution of profits among its shareholders.

Gazprom dividends by year: payment history

For the previous 2021, the company paid dividends in the amount of 16.61 rubles per share. In total, more than 390 billion were paid out on shares. The stock's yield by current standards was 7.2%.

Dividend history

The table below shows the history of dividend payments to shareholders since 2004.

Dividend cut-off

In order to be eligible to receive compensation, you just need to own the shares on the specified date. In fact, it is enough to know the cut-off date for Gazprom dividends and own shares only once a year.

The cutoff refers to such an important process as compiling a list of shareholders who are eligible for financial incentives.

Previously, the company may not have indicated when the dividend register would close and who would be on the list of shareholders. Accordingly, the date was announced after the list was formed. In the end, it turned out that the list was formed several months ago, and only those who owned shares at that time were lucky. And if you had shares all year, but a month ago you sold them, then you will not receive dividends.

However, now, according to the new legislation, the cut-off date is announced in advance. As a result, shareholders can prepare for this date in advance, and decide for themselves whether they need to sell the shares, or whether it is better to wait for the dividends to accrue.

The date when the lists will be compiled is set by Gazprom annually at the shareholders meeting.

Information about the meeting is posted on the website in advance.

You can also find out when the cutoff will be on the website. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the issuer’s official website, open the “Shareholders and Investors” tab > “Information Disclosure”, then select “Material Facts”.

  2. Next, in the window that opens, use the search bar (Ctrl + F) to find “Message about the date on which persons entitled to exercise rights under registered issue-grade securities are determined...”.

Please view this document to find out when the list of shareholders will be released.

If you want to be included in the register of shareholders claiming to pay dividends, then the shares must be purchased at least 2 days before the cut-off date.

By the way, in the Tinkoff Investments application, information about the closing date of the register is published on the share information card on the “Dividends” tab. This indicates the date by which the shares must be purchased (cut-off date minus 2 days) in order to qualify for payment of dividends.

What dividends will be paid in 2021?

The latest data is in the table above.

The expected income per 1 share of Gazprom is 16.6 rubles. In accordance with the dividend policy of the joint-stock company, the planned bonus payments are 35% of the company's net profit. The remuneration forecast in 2021 is 27.00% of Gazprom’s income. It turned out that the payment was 2 times higher than the previous level.

Gazprom seems to be beginning to comply with the Ministry of Finance’s requirement to increase payments for dividends to 50% of profits. Last year the company's profit and revenue increased significantly.

Despite the gigantic projects, net profit increased to 1,456 billion rubles. The company's management made a proposal to pay a record amount as dividends - 393.2 billion rubles.

How much did Gazprom earn in 2018?

Oil 2018

Let's try to figure out oil first, using Rosstat data. According to statistics for 2021, oil production in Russia amounted to 555 million tons. 260 million tons were exported. Now let’s calculate the revenue for oil exports in 2021, multiplying 260 million by 420 (at the world market price, the cost per ton of oil is 420.4 US dollars).

Exported oil generated revenues of more than $109 billion.

But some of the oil remained in Russia. 290 million tons went for processing. And it earned more than $121 billion. It is not difficult to calculate how much profit the company received in 2021 from the oil produced - more than $230 billion.

Gas 2018

Gas production in 2018 was a record: 733 billion cubic meters.
This made it possible to increase exports by 9.3%. By increasing exports, we increase profits. The average gas price is $220 per 1000 cubic meters. Let's start counting: divide 245000000000 by 1000 and multiply by 220, we get 53900000000.

So, exports generated a profit of more than $53 billion.

But there is still gas left on the domestic market, which is about 488 billion cubic meters. Carrying out the calculation, we get the following indicators:

Divide 488000000000 by 1000 and multiply by 100 (Russian gas is priced at $100 per 1000 cubic meters), we get a result equal to $48000000000.

Summing up the profits, we get income from gas production of 101900000000 dollars.

How much did Gazprom earn in 2021?

Thus, revenue from the sale of oil and gas in 2021 amounted to 332900000000 dollars (21638 500000000 rubles).

Every year the efficiency of Gazprom’s work increases.

Stock return

The par value of Gazprom securities is 5 rubles. By 2003, the price of shares had increased; you could get up to 25 rubles per share. Subsequently, the growth continued, the price of the asset reached 335 rubles by 2006. Before the crisis in 2008, paper already cost 365 rubles. In November, the exchange rate collapsed to 80 rubles.

This is clearly shown in the graph.

After the restoration, the value of Gazprom shares reached 230 rubles. Then corrections occurred up to 105 rubles. Over the past 2 years, the exchange rate has stabilized and recovered losses during the crisis.

The cost today is 207.14 rubles.

Warning about Forex and BO

Expert opinion

Ask a Question

Beginners are attracted to BO and Forex trading by the opportunity to quickly earn money and receive money monthly. But binary options in Russia and Europe are not real trading. These are bookmakers and casinos.

Such “brokers” do not send user requests to the exchange. All trading orders, as well as traders’ money, remain in the BO offices forever. It's not even worth talking about dividends here. Spare your time and money. Better pay attention to licensed intermediaries and real assets.

Attracting loans

In the first quarter of 2021, the Gazprom Group attracted loans worth €921 million from consortiums of banks, according to its quarterly reports.

Long-term loans in the amount of €421 million with an interest rate of EURIBOR +1.6% and maturing in 2021 were raised in February-April 2021. The agreement was concluded in December 2018, the transaction agent is Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Luxembourg S.A. Another loan in the amount of €500 million with an interest rate of EURIBOR +1.65% and a maturity date of 2024 was raised in March 2021. The agent for this transaction is Natixis Bank.

Also in February, a long-term loan was attracted from Otkritie Bank in the amount of €400 million with an interest rate of 2.5% and a repayment period in 2024.

The report also reported that in February 2021 it issued $1.25 billion in bonds with an interest rate of 5.15% and maturing in 2026 as part of a $40 billion loan participation bond program.

Taxation

When making dividend payments, the tax agent is a joint stock company, which means that the tax on dividends is paid directly by the issuing company or the brokerage company with which the individual has entered into an agreement. If the tax agent did not withhold the tax for any reason, the taxpayer is obliged to submit a tax return to the Federal Tax Service at his place of residence and pay the tax himself.

According to the law (clauses 1 and 3 of Article 224 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation), the tax rate on dividends is:

  • 13% for individuals who are residents;

  • 15% for individuals who, in turn, are not residents.
